Nivea Micellar Water – How Does It Compare To The Cult Favourites?

I have always had the misfortune of having really dry skin. This is something my girls have unfortunately now inherited, which means they regularly get smothered in E45. The cream that is believed by the previous generation to solve any skin ailment known to woman. Special mention to Sudocrem too. If you grew up with Irish parents I can guarantee you were smothered in either one of them. Nothing wrong with it. They are fine products. Just maybe not for your face.

I can’t recall a time in my life when I didn’t use Nivea moisturiser, although I am assuming I wasn’t dosed in it after I was removed via vacuum from the womb. But it is the only moisturiser I have ever used. I have tried others but they just couldn’t penetrate the dryness or weren’t wow enough to justify the price tag. My precious Nivea cream is on average €3 for a 75ml tube. I never buy the tub as they are unhygienic, plus the tube is very handy for throwing into a handbag.

So, now that Nivea have launched their own range of make-up removal products at a reasonable price, I was excited to try them out.  There are many micellar water type products on the market since the craze first hit. Some pricier versions I am intrigued by, as the products at the lower end of the price scale already do a fantastic job. Do the more expensive versions have something extra like a fountain of youth potion or a spell to make my gigantic pores disappear completely?

Nivea Daily Essentials Caring Micellar Water

The Daily Essentials Caring Micellar Water ticks all the boxes for me. My very sensitive and dry skin often tightens when applying a product to my face. But this left my skin feeling fresh, clean and hydrated. I adore micellar waters in general, they are my holy grail type of make-up remover after years of testing different ones. I once had a confrontation with a bottle of ‘cleansing milk’ which seemed to join with my make-up and make a delightful trifle like layer on my skin. Not ideal. So a drop of this micellar water works wonders and is definitely a future repurchase.

Nivea Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover

I must give love to the Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover for exciting the five-year old senseless. She now asks can she shake the bottle to mix the blues together for me. Then gets overwhelmed with excitement that I’m going to put this ‘magic’ on my face. So simple, but so sweet. At the same time she doesn’t understand why I am taking off my make-up because it makes me look ‘so pretty’. Even five-year-olds prefer being surrounded by attractive visuals rather than big bags mammy. I have nothing but praise for this product. I can feel the oils working instantly and the two strength formula works wonders at removing waterproof mascara. Which is great as it is the only type of mascara I wear. (Now finding an excellent one of those is a different story).

Both products are available in chemists all over Ireland, as well as supermarkets. They are currently half price in Dunnes Stores if you would like to test them out for a great price like I did. I’ll be picking up the Soothing Cleansing Mousse next to try out as I have a fondness for those types of products. I’m delighted to say a Nivea product hasn’t failed me yet!
